ALFRED DOBELL January 2, 1923 - May 7, 2021 Alfred Martin Dobell, in his 99th year. Born January 2, 1923 to R. Reid Dobell and Janet Martin. He graduated from the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, England in order to join the war effort in 1941 as an officer on board ships of the Royal Navy seeing service in both the Mediterranean and Atlantic theatres and subsequently with the Royal Canadian Navy. In 1945, Alfred married Elizabeth Pritchard, and they had three children, sons Richard, Ian (d. 2004) and daughter Patricia. At war's end he took up a career selling marine paint to various shipbuilders before catching the investment bug and, in 1956 joined the Montreal-based firm of MacDougal, MacDougal & MacTier, where he worked for many happy years before retiring as full partner. In 1964, he married Anne Marshall (née Taylor) and became stepfather to Robin, Catherine and Taylor. Alfred and Anne had a son (Andrew) in 1965. Alf loved sailing, summers in Prouts Neck and North Hatley, cross country skiing, his evening walks (no matter the weather) and every dog he ever met. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne, Richard Dobell, Patricia Dobell (Rubin Kurtz), Andrew Dobell, Taylor Marshall (Marie Colford), Robin Comolli (Grant Loewen), Catherine Marshall (Graham Batchelor), seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchldren. He instilled in all of us his dedication and concern for all creatures great and small and the environment on which they and we depend.
