Obituary - Derek Drummond

It is with deep sadness that we inform the Selwyn House School community of the passing of Derek Drummond, former Selwyn House Association Board Member (1982-1990), who died on November 17, 2023, at the age of 85. Derek was the beloved father of Colin, Gavin ‘82, Robbie ‘84 and Louis ‘89. Professor Drummond generously volunteered his time participating in the first Career Awareness Day in 1984, acted as a guest speaker at the graduation ceremony that same year, and was a staple at his sons’ hockey games, even helping out as a coach. Professor Drummond's kind-hearted nature and unwavering support won him many friends among the staff including the Athletic Department's stalwarts, Rob Wearing, Peter Govan, Steve Mitchell, and Pierre Belanger. "I appreciate the role these guys played in shaping the character of the people my sons have become," remarked Derek in an interview.

 

"Derek was very supportive and helpful to me when I joined Selwyn House as a rookie Head in the middle of the 1984-85 school year. His conscientious work as a Board Member and unfaltering wise counsel benefited me in every way," commented Will Mitchell, Headmaster (1985-2008).

 

A celebration of life will take place at St. George's Anglican Church, located at 1001 Av. des Canadiens-de-Montréal, Montréal, QC H3B 3B3, on Thursday, November 30, at 2 p.m. The service will also be available for live streaming.
