DJ Malik Speaks to Middle & Senior School about the Legacy of Little Burgundy

On February 20, as a part of the activities celebrating Black History Month, Selwyn House School welcomed Malik Shaheed. He delivered an energetic and knowledge-filled presentation centered on the community of Little Burgundy. As an event producer and well-known interviewer, DJ Malik took us on a journey through the history of this historically Black community and highlighted the notable influence its residents had, not only on the jazz and then hip-hop scene in Montreal but globally.

As a spokes-person for the Youth Stars Foundation, Malik shared his lived experience growing up in Little Burgundy. He emphasized the importance of advocacy and using one's voice to advocate for others, aligning with Selwyn's Veritas principles. Thank you Ms. Springer, Ms. Schwartz, and Ms. Torry for making this presentation possible with the support of the Old Boys' Speaker Series Fund.
