25th Annual Old Boys' Hockey Event

Fourteen spirited Old Boys and staff hit the ice at the 25th Annual Old Boys' Hockey event and nine fans enjoyed seeing that the SHS spirit was alive and well. The traditional tournament, originally set for December, was rescheduled and took place on February 29 as a shinny game. The two teams, sporting the Selwyn House black or gold colours, showcased their skills in a friendly pick-up game. One highlight was the unique way of determining the winner of the Nicoll-Mitchell Trophy (featuring the actual childhood skate of Old Boy and former NHL-er Torrey Mitchell '02). Nick Kaulbach ’94 of the Gold Team called "tails" in a coin toss, giving the game to the Black Team.

The awards ceremony, led by tournament namesakes retired teacher Tom Nicoll and retired Athletics Director Steve Mitchell, brought lots of laughs as various Old Boys were recognized for their contributions and for some interesting skills. One of the most coveted prizes was the senior alumnus award for spirit, youthfulness, and enthusiasm presented to the player "who will need a month to recover." This year's proud recipient was Geoff Moore ’83. The post-game gathering over pizza provided the perfect setting for reconnecting and reminiscing about the good old days. It was a day filled with laughter, sportsmanship, and the enduring bond of the Selwyn House community.
