Journey of Cultural Immersion: Selwyn House School's Transformative Trip to Japan

From March 6 to 17, 26 Selwyn House School students from Grade 9 to 12 and three accompanying staff members travelled to Japan. Reflecting on the March Break trip to Japan, it's clear that it was more than just a journey—it was an immersive cultural exchange that left a lasting impact on everyone involved. From Hiroshima's poignant Peace Memorial Museum to Kyoto's iconic Kinkakuji Temple, every moment was filled with cultural immersion. Ms. Schwartz, Community Engagement Coordinator, noted how special it was to see the students connect with locals in meaningful ways. From forging friendships during Kendo classes to hearing firsthand accounts of history, each interaction made Japan feel more like home. Mr. Kelley, Grade 6 Homeroom Teacher, echoed this sentiment, marveling at how the trip transcended expectations. He highlighted how being able to accompany former students from his classroom to the streets of Japan was a testament to the long-lasting relational ethos fostered at Selwyn House! Mr. McCarney, Director of Academic Innovation and Growth expanded on the value of the trip stating that the boys proved to be exceptional ambassadors, embracing every aspect of the journey with enthusiasm and respect. It was a trip filled with growth, camaraderie, and moments that will be cherished for years to come!
