A Weekend of Basketball Championship Games

During the weekend of April 12-14, Selwyn House School's basketball teams demonstrated their prowess in divisional championship games. While Selwyn hosted the RESQ Juvenile D3 Provincial Basketball Championships, welcoming over 16 teams from Quebec, the Cadet D3 team ventured to Trois-Rivières to compete.

The Juvenile D3 Basketball team exhibited intensity and focus throughout the Provincial Basketball Championships. Coach Jon Merritt '04, Senior School Social Studies teacher, expressed immense pride in the players' determination and cohesion. Despite not clinching the championship title, their resilience in facing adversity and their unity on and off the court left a lasting impression. Coach Merritt congratulated them for earning the RESQ Provincial silver medal.

Meanwhile, in Trois-Rivières, the Cadet D3 Basketball team, led by Coach Kevin Boyle '97, Senior School Science teacher, achieved a remarkable feat. They emerged victorious in the RESQ Quebec Provincial Championship on April 14, triumphing over 15 other regional contenders. Their victory marked Selwyn House School's first Cadet D3 provincial basketball banner since 1995, a monumental achievement for the team and the school community.

Special thank you to Mike Maurovich, Director of Athletics, and Neil Banerjee, Head of Senior School and President of the Board of Directors for GMAA, as well as Amanda Maks, Executive Director of the GMAA and her team. The support of the PVA and the entire participating Selwyn House School staff was invaluable in making the 2024 Juvenile D3 Provincial School Basketball Championships a major success.
